Flight: 17 (Miami, FL to Seattle, WA) Date of incident: December 2, 2011 Time of incident: Approximately 8:10 A.M. ET Description of animal (including name): A 9-year-old, female cat. Narrative description of incident: After TSA screening of the kennel, our Miami ramp service agent placed the kennel in the baggage cart and transported the kennel to the aircraft. Upon arrival at the aircraft, he noticed that the cat was missing from her kennel. Our Miami Customer Service Manager was advised and assisted in the immediate search for the cat along with notification to the customer of her cat’s escape. The customer was offered the opportunity to take a later flight; casino she decided to take her scheduled flight to Seattle. The search for the cat continues with the assistance from local airport authorities. To date, the cat is still missing. Narrative description of the cause of the incident: A 9-year-old, female cat escaped from her kennel prior to being loaded on the aircraft and is still missing. There is no evidence to suggest that the airline’s handling contributed to the animal’s escape. Narrative description of any corrective action taken in response to the incident: No action required.
